Artist Statement

Art has always been a part of my life. Shortly after graduating with a B.F.A. from Rochester Institute of Technology, I discovered using colored pencils as a fine art medium. I work realistically and I like the smooth texture and fine details that can be achieved with colored pencils.

My work is inspired by my love of nature, travel, and the beauty I find in everyday objects.

Primarily a colored pencil artist, I have enjoyed extending my artistry into other mediums. For the last several years I have enjoyed East Asian brush painting. I like the contrast between the very slow process of creating a colored pencil painting layer upon layer and the spontaneity of brush painting where I try to convey the essence of a subject by using minimal strokes of ink and watercolor.

Plan for new work

I was recently in Iceland, and I am excited to create new work from some of what I experienced. The country is breathtaking.

Exhibitions planned

I have had work juried into two upcoming shows: “Visualizing the Past” at Mills Pond Gallery in St. James, NY, on view August 7-September 5, 2021; The Art League of Long Island’s online exhibition, “Awakening” on view July 17-September 6, 2021, https://artleagueli.org/exhibitions/awakening-virtual-exhibition/.

I currently have work for sale at three galleries: Barnes Gallery in Garden City, NY; J. Pocker in Manhasset, NY and Framers Outlet in Pt. Washington, NY. I was recently one of seven artists participating in The Smithtown Township Arts Council at the Mills Pond Gallery "Winners Showcase II" and had work juried into The Salmagundi Club "2021 Annual Painting, Sculpture, & Graphics Open Exhibition” in NYC.

Why I entered the Endangered Fine Art and Photography Contest?

I entered the ENDANGERED Fine Art & Photography contest because I think it is important to bring attention to what is happening on our planet. I was happy to learn that all proceeds from the competition go to support The Center for Great Apes. It is a great cause and the work they are doing is important. I was also impressed by the quality of the work I saw from past and current entries.

Having your work focused on endangered animals and our environment can help start a conversation about what is happening to our world and to, hopefully, promote change.
