SUBMISSION: Glacier 2 by Rae Broyles

Tribute to Glaciers-Small “Glaciers are delicate and individual things, like humans. Instability is built into them.” – William Harrison

After visiting British Columbia for the first time, a few years back for a painting class, I saw the glaciers first-hand. I was absolutely stunned by their beauty and saddened but by the changes that are happening to them. These encaustic works are reflections of the amazing glaciers we see ambitious mountain climbers scaling so heroically in Patagonia catalogs and National Geographic Magazine. There disappearance affects not only polar bears and the arctic climate but also the overall stability of the planet. Orison Marden said, “Forests, lakes, and rivers, clouds and winds, stars and flowers, stupendous glaciers and crystal snowflakes - every form of animate or inanimate existence, leaves its impress upon the soul of man." And they have left an impression on me.
