SUBMISSION: Gorilla Love by Kate Vansuch

Gorilla Love. Mixed Media by Kate Vansuch. All Rights Reserved. This piece features a mother gorilla in the lower left with her babies in the trees. In the lower right is a verse from a Mary Oliver poem that illustrates what I hope for our world.

I have always loved gorillas. I wanted to work with them but entered the military as a nurse and never got to fulfill that dream. I saw this call to artists contest and immediately thought of gorillas! The art I entered is mixed media. It depicts a mother gorilla with a flower/ leaf crown in the lower left of the picture. There are three baby gorillas in the tree. On the lower right is an excerpt from a poem by Mary Oliver that, I think, illustrates my hope for all species inhabiting this earth to live together. I have been creating art for years. I have specifically been working in mixed media for the past 3 years. I've had no formal training and am an RN for my career. I've been fortunate to have my art work in shows in VT where I lived the past 14 years. My family and I just relocated to PA and I'm hoping to continue my art work here too! Thank you for considering my entry!
