SUBMISSION: King's Reflection by Akiko Watanabe

This is my tribute to Cecil who was killed by a poacher on July 1, 2015. Rest in peace, Cecil. We will try our best to protect your family for you. Much of my art focuses on nature and expresses my love for animals, both domesticated and wild. The beauty of these creatures comes from their deep innocence and honesty. Their attentions are never divided. It seems they have mastered the art of living in the moment of the NOW. By painting them I aspire to create art as pure and beautiful as they are —as if in the process of painting I will touch that special treasure hidden deep within their eyes. Painting satisfies my creative urges as well as educates me. My own senses of perception are sharpened as I try to capture the essence of my subject, and in the process I learn more about the nature of these creatures as well as myself.
