This young male lion stops for a quick nap in the sun. Big cats have always had a special place in my heart. Today many are threatened by a variety of largely manmade factors. Even the lion – the quintessential symbol of African wildlife – is under fire.
I came upon this young male slogging through the Okavango. He finally found a dry patch and flopped, exhausted, in the sun for a quick nap. A perfect opportunity to make some quick sketches. Now that moment is captured vividly on canvas.
It is my hope that future generations will have the opportunity to visit them in the wild.
