The Lion and the Mouse, Stained Glass, Copper Foil Overlaid, by Margot Marquette. All Rights Reserved. I created this stained glass panel in reference to the Aesop's Fable of the same name, which dates back to before 620 BC. Many animal species are only hunted for food or overpopulation or nuisance, while the majestic lion is also often hunted and captured for bragging rights and trophy rooms.
Creating art has held a significant place in my life for as long as I can remember and has evolved into a much valued avocation in my adult years. Literature was a major influence in my family life growing up and I have incorporated that exposure to great stories into inspiration for my artistic endeavors. As a child I was introduced to literature with animals as prime characters such as Watership Down, The Chronicles of Narnia, and Aesop’s Fables. The animal world has been a natural place for me to turn to for inspiration for my art. I was raised to not be afraid of animals and have always been amazed by their behavior; why do they do what they do? Spinning anthropomorphic tales and scenes about animals has been a great pastime of mine.
I particularly enjoy working with stained glass and copper overlay panels. My goal is to give warmth and emotion to animals using cold and rigid glass and metal.
