This is a bold painting of a mother elephant along the Zambezi River. The earthy landscape is the setting for a protrait of this beautiful female elephant in a special moment of mutual respect. This painting was inspired by a trip to the Zambezi River. The Mother elephant is big and bold which is captured in the layout of the painting. She was in a larger group, but her presence was dramatic as she looked directly into the eyes of the viewer.
My inspiration comes from a trip to South Africa, Botswana and Zimbabwe. I was exposed to the intensity of the landscape, the beauty of the birds and animals and the hospitality of the people. My photography and painting is a reflection of the experience there. I dream of returning to Africa one day.
