SUBMISSION: Pachyderm Illumination by Stefanie Mellett

This luminaire is a 12 inch piece of bamboo I acquired from someone’s yard waste. I used a mirror and placed two photos side by side so one may be able to view all aspects of it being lit and unlit.I used my wood burning pen for the 2 elephants, their tracks on the bottom and tusks on the upper sides. Then I drilled holes to let the light in and using all natural jute to macrame-cute; the hanger for which to hang the luminaire. Ideally it needs to be hung at least two feet from the wall in a corner hanging approximately 6 inches from the ceiling for the full effect of casting the elephant shadows. The light source are battery operated led lights. I chose the color purple for the lights which when lit illuminates the elephants presence so that we shall never forget how the greed of the ivory trade industry is destroying the lives of hundreds of elephants. For which we as humans need to put an end of such destruction before it is too late.
