SUBMISSION: Road to Extinction by Keith Alway

Road to Extinction by Keith Alway "Acrylic. Mountain gorillas live and travel mostly on the ground, but will climb trees to forage for fruit and leaves. They are frequently maimed and killed by poachers using guns and snares. Their heads, feet, and hands are sold for profit, and infants sold to zoos." Keith Alway, a West Coast-based artist, paints primarily with oils and acyrlics. He uses captivating nature scenes and fascinating wildlife as his subject matter. He is specifically noted for transforming his realistically painted animals into fetching creatures using unexpected bold and brilliant colors. A graduated of Cal State Long Beach, Keith worked diligently for 30 years as a medical illustrator...fine-tuning a penchant for precision and detail. That exactitude stayed with him as he began his journey into the world of fine arts. Fascinated with the works of Southwest artist John Nieto, Keith believed he could apply Nieto's color-theory to his own painted animals... yet hold fast to his natural ability to paint realistically. He states, "I never wanted to be known as another photo-realism wildlife artist. It is the color that gives my animals special character and vitality."
