SUBMISSION: Bald Eagle Mating Ritual Pntg #4 by Dr Ann Lindahl
ENDANGERED: Fine Art & Photography Contest 2018 Submission This is a reproduction of the painting #4 of the Quadriptych or Tetraptych of the Bald Eagle Mating Ritual that took 10 months to paint. The national bird and national animal of the United States is the Bald Eagle. In the last century the Bald Eagle was on the brink of extinction in the U.S. Bald Eagles are not bald. In the past the word bald meant white not hairless. Females are 25% larger than males. About half of the world's 70000 bald eagles live in Alaska near large bodies of open water where they prosper due to the abundant salmon dead or dying fish. Eagles have a courtship ritual called 'cartwheeling'. They meet. Then one turns upside down and they grasp talons and cartwheel down separating near ground. But sometimes they end up on the ground. Then they go to the nest to mate.

All the other cranes were depressed and sulked in the shadows. This crane boldly spread his wings and began to dance. I gave him a beautiful new world.
