Painting gives me the opportunity to fully explore my feelings at the moment.
Do I want to be bold or subtle? Colorful or muted?
I have the freedom to go any direction, and discard the rules that I have studied and obeyed for so many years.
I fully immerse myself in the process of developing that one individual work of art. By keeping my eyes and heart really open, inspiration and beauty is often right in front of me.

My hope is that the emotions I feel, in the creation of each piece of art, will come through to those who view them and something in that painting will speak to each viewer on a very personal level. I have a strong passion to paint animals; I can see their innocence and personalities. My ability to see the compassion and understanding in their eyes allows me to paint beautiful, lifelike portraits and works of art. All animals' eyes painted in my work, are in a style that gives them a voice that otherwise cannot be heard. Achieving the voice, is what adds another dimension to their presence on the canvas. Ask any artist, and they will say that the eyes are what give the subject a soul. I agree but also feel that the composition of the subject, the expression, and surroundings all play a role in achieving their voice. Now as an independent artist, I specialize in acrylic and pastel paintings. I create works of art featuring animals, wildlife, and pets.

I chose the brush as the way of expressing my feelings through life. It allows me to combine colors and feelings to create an artwork with a sense of realism and from my perspective. My unique style shows life from a completely different viewpoint. I deconstruct the world I see in geometric shapes, give it color and make it move in a circular pattern. My studies in Architecture, Art History, Drafting and Assisted Design, beside Animation Art and Design gave me the tools to create a style I refer as ""Geometric Futurism Art"".

Kim Rody captures the color and beauty of the tropics both above and below the water's surface. Using thick acrylic paint she creates dramatic large canvases (up to 97 inches)... potraits of turtles, fish and marine life as well as coconut trees and sailboats. She lives on an out island in the Bahamas and likes to go in the ocean at least once a day.

Let it Flow. I try to capture the flow of energy on paper. I try not to force anything, but to just let it happen...let it flow on its own. I do pen and ink originals and then produce giclee prints from the originals.
I get my creative energy from nature. I love being in and around water from which I receive artistic energy. I absorb the natural flows and rhythms and try to let them flow through me onto the paper.
I almost always listen to music when I draw, which helps me get into the flow. I generally don't have a plan when I draw. When I start to see something I accentuate the feeling until it starts to work. I never really know where my drawings will end up. I like to turn the paper as I draw to make it work from all angles. I learned this from carving stone which you constantly turn as you work on it.

Oil painting can be forgiving at times to correct small issues, with that said it is less forgiving when applying a glaze over an already painted area. Patience must be learned to allow the already Painted area to be completely dry. As time has pasted, I have learned that it takes time to make a great piece of Art.
Inspired by the Baroque Style and painters like Caravaggio which highlights light and dark shadows on his subjects. I have chosen to use that style in all my paintings going forward.

The most exciting part of being a wildlife artist is going out into the field to gather the reference for my paintings. That means coming face to face with some of natures most prized possessions — its wild creatures. Here where my passion begins!
I don’t copy photographs I use them as a tool to get where I want to express in my work. I often add a bit more color to my paintings to inspire excitement in the viewer. Each of my paintings tells a story.
I tend to favor a warm palette over a cool one, I think that living in Florida has something to do with it.
When I start a painting in pastel I use a textured paper. I cover it with four colors depicting values and stain the rubbing alcohol. Then I jump in working from dark to light. My under paintings for each medium add a luminosity (inner light).

My painting depicts a cowboy and his mount, after having just crossed a river, coming upon a rattlesnake. The horse sense the rattler first as shown by an expression of pure panic. The rider, realizing the danger, shouts out the title of this painting - Oh Sheeit!. The question is: who startled whom first?

The title of my painting is 'Between a Rock and a Hard Place'. It depicts a mother mountain lion and her cubs in their canyon alcove. She and her cubs are confronted by an all too common intruder as they are literally between a rock and a hard place.
