I am an international award-winning full time professional abstract artist with an extensive resume living and working on the New Jersey shore. I see abstractions everywhere and would like for others to notice them as well. I have been referred to as a colorist.

My technique involves acrylic skins - dried acrylics that I adhere to works and draw with as part of the composition's detail. The history of my brushstrokes and colorations are usually visible.

My multi-layered colorful original abstract paintings are mixed media and/or acrylics. Framed or on gallery-wrapped canvas with painted edges as part of the composition.

Kim Rody-Kopp has been a professional fine art painter since 2000, when she dropped out of the corporate world to paint full time. She began gaining a following in South Florida and the Bahama Islands by painting large, colorful and dramatic canvases of fish, turtles, palm trees, and all things tropical, and became known over the last decade as the “fishartista”.

Living on her boat in Hope Town Harbour in the Abaco Islands of the Bahamas, she met and married the sailor on the next mooring, who introduced her to sailing on the Intracoastal Waterway, as well as a log cabin outside of Asheville, NC. Now she paints mountains and trees in the summer in Fairview, and fish and turtles in the winter in the Bahamas. You can find both worlds at this website.

Her work is appealing to clients looking for a dramatic, bright, and colorful feel which pulls the viewer in and under, into the world she loves best, and that few enjoy first-hand.

Kim Rody captures the color and beauty of the tropics both above and below the water's surface. Using thick acrylic paint she creates dramatic large canvases (up to 97 inches)... potraits of turtles, fish and marine life as well as coconut trees and sailboats. She lives on an out island in the Bahamas and likes to go in the ocean at least once a day.

This clay sculpture reflects for me the threatened existence of the polar bear. The polar bear is ADRIFT in a sea that is devoid of ice and food. It's tenuous existence depends on this weathered, decaying boat that provides only temporary salvation. Obviously, climate change is eliminating the natural environment that enables the continued existence of the polar bear and my sculpture is intended to symbolize how endangered this beautiful animal is.

The central element that unifies my work is the non-traditional medium of paper. With the exception of some occasional under painting, paper supplies all the color. Sometimes the paper itself is just right, but usually multiple layers and combinations of color are required to achieve the right hue and intensity. The papers are derived from organic matter, so they yield various natural colors and textures which add their own unique beauty. No paper is truly transparent, though some are so thin they can function as a glaze, while others are so heavy they can be difficult to control. I apply the papers to the canvas with an acrylic medium, and finish each piece with a UV coating.

I enjoy the challenge of communicating a feeling, experience, or atmosphere in two dimensions. My work is successful when it touches more than the viewer’s eye and draws them into a shared moment, memory, or emotion beyond the limited expression of the subject.

When visiting Australia Wildlife Park in NSW I was captivated by this very photogenic koala who was such a great subject fo my drawing. I loved how happy he looked and this is something I wanted to accentuate. It is this happy and gentle expression that makes koalas adored by the world over.

After the devestating fires of 2019/20 an astonsihing 12.6 million hectares of forest and bushland was lost. These fires pushed koalas to the brink. Even after the loss of this vital habitat, logging companies and developers are still continuing with deforestation. Koalas will be lost from the east coast of Australia for ever if this isn't stopped.

Our modern “convenient” way of living is destroying rainforest habitat, all for making convenient ready made snacks from palm oil. Those instant noodles, ice-cream, corn chips and many other products made from palm oil comes at a significant cost: the loss of the forest homes and lives of one of the most beautiful creatures on the planet. Maybe it’s time to re-think the instant gratification mentality and glutinous consumption habits modern society is so driven by.

Through each portrait I aspire to show what is inherent in every animal on earth, of what is beautiful and worth saving and to show that these innocent beings are just as sentient as we are. When someone views one of my wildlife portraits and connects with their eyes I invite the viewer to become more curious and to take a closer look; to learn more about them in order to save them.

My hope is that the emotions I feel, in the creation of each piece of art, will come through to those who view them and something in that painting will speak to each viewer on a very personal level. I have a strong passion to paint animals; I can see their innocence and personalities. My ability to see the compassion and understanding in their eyes allows me to paint beautiful, lifelike portraits and works of art. All animals' eyes painted in my work, are in a style that gives them a voice that otherwise cannot be heard. Achieving the voice, is what adds another dimension to their presence on the canvas. Ask any artist, and they will say that the eyes are what give the subject a soul. I agree but also feel that the composition of the subject, the expression, and surroundings all play a role in achieving their voice. Now as an independent artist, I specialize in acrylic and pastel paintings. I create works of art featuring animals, wildlife, and pets.

Living in South Florida I see the impact of humans on nature every day. One example is the devastation caused by releases of Burmese pythons into Everglade’s decades ago. The python was a consumer product, purchased and then disposed of with terrible consequences. In some areas of the Everglades, it is estimated the pythons are responsible for close to 99% reductions of native species like a racoons, opossums, rabbits, foxes and birds. As the pythons eat and decimate all around them, they are the only species left and they eat each other. This mosaic is about encroachment of human consumerism into the wild. Whether it is the killing of apes or keeping and releasing of dangerous invasive snakes, the root cause is our human collective never-ending hunger for more stuff. Eventually we too might be the only species left. There is an estimate of 400 wild flamingos in Florida, flamingos are not considered a threatened or endangered species by Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission

'Tim' is a representation of a bull elephant from the Amboseli ecosystem in southern Kenya. He was named by Cynthia Moss, who has been studying this population of elephants since 1972. Tim had been a favorite with tourists for many years due to his tall stature and his huge sweeping tusks. He was always one of the elephants I looked for when in Amboseli. Sadly, Tim died of a twisted gut in February of 2020 at the age of 51. I was fortunate to see him during my last visit, three months prior.

We called it the ""MARSH"" Ive heard and read it called swampland, wet lands, and many more.

Gaia gave us these to protect and provide. They are the source of life for many species and our lives, protecting the surrounding lands from flooding , offering a powerful buffer to pollution runoff, serving as a natural filter to nutrient polluted water. This shared existance is teaming with life, plant and animal under water and above.

The MARSH was my mother. We spent many hours under the old willow tree imagining and playing.

To this day the first sound of the Red Wing Black birds warbling loudly from the loop of a bursting cattail fills my soul with the joy of spring days coming out the dark winter months. The croaking frogs a calm satisfaction at the end of a day.

It breaks my heart to see these fragile but strong places drained and turned into subdivisions or big agro farm fields.

I created this raw design as a memory of the lush beauty I knew and hope to inspire preservation.

Plastic Soup refers to all of the plastic polluting the ocean: plastic bags floating on the surface as well as the micro-and nanoplastics in the seawater.Over one million marine animals(mammals, fish, endangered turtles, and birds) are killed each year due to plastic debris in the ocean. Marine animals get entangled in plastic waste, limiting their motion and ability to feed, and causing injury and infection.Ingesting plastic can cause internal organ damage, fatal intestinal blockage ,and can also lead to starvation as the plastic give the animal the illusion of feeling full. Plastics also act as hosts for invasive species and contain toxic additives that are distributed into the water and enter the food chain.

While the black-capped Chickadee is not officially endangered...it is none the less being affected by climate change and ""moving north"". The key to conservation is thinking about and planning before species reach the critical stage of endangerment. So, while your backyard local birds seem safe and plentiful for the moment--remember, our wildlife is fragile and we all need to be constant watchers and voices for their wellbeing and longevity! This piece is mixed media, collage and painting, using copies of my own photos.
