I work primarily with oils, beginning a piece with a wash of bright color then applying an accurate sketch of my subject, sometimes evolving into a detailed grisaille by removing paint with a cloth. I use thick brush strokes of vibrant color to draw you in to this image of blurred lines and bold texture. I strive for you to be intrigued when examining my paintings closely, I tell a story with my brush.

My approach consists in transforming my photographs into paintings which are then mounted on canvas and become the principle of working with materials to return to the earth, to the first essence. Inks, ochres, pigments, structural mortars, paints, ... so many materials to sublimate and represent in colors and shapes the energy of this sovereign animal that is the elephant. A tribute to the land and to the anchoring force that moves us and that we feel in the presence of these majestic mammals. And to all the heavens placed on earth by their mere presence.

These paintings, like fragments of landscapes, oceans, archipelagos, land seen from the sky, volcanic expanses, galaxies, exposed to natural light, become, with the lights off, through the use of phosphorescent paint, starry sky vaults.

Visual artist and photographer of the intimate. Through an approach that is both sensual and dreamlike, from landscape to self-portrait, from dream to reality, I use different media to express my art.

I tend to paint interesting and compelling subjects as I see them, as this provides the greatest challenge and reward when achieved. I prefer to paint with Oil and Acrylics because of their vibrant colors and infinite palettes.

Susan Hillary, is a multi-talented painter, farmer, filmmaker and environmental advocate. Her paintings express energy and motion. Reflections about space and light are essential to her work.

Her art elicits a visceral reaction to the degradation of our environment, bringing attention to mankind’s destruction of our natural resources while celebrating the beauty of our planet; a subject she is passionate about both in her art and in her environmental advocacy.

Susan is a self-taught painter who started painting in the 1980’s on the glass windows found on the streets of NYC. Her work is included in the Gertrude Stein and Devorzan Collections.

Endangered species is an emotional hot spot for me. We humans have destroyed so much more than our environment. We have burned, dried out and flooded the home ranges of so many species of animals and plants. Food sources have been poisoned by farmers to ""protect"" their pastures. Swift Fox is one of the many species suffering at the hands of man.

Carrie Cook is a Signature Member of both Society of Animal Artists and Artists for Conservation but considers herself a portrait artist, emphasizing the individual. Her current series highlights individuals living at the Center for Great Apes sanctuary. There may be no better way to convey that other animals have the right to life and freedom from harm than by focusing on species closest to our own - non-human great apes. Every one has a story, whether used in the entertainment industry, victimized by the exotic pet trade, or facing increasing perils in the wild. Their stories are inextricably linked with our own, and like ours, are filled with both loss and hope.

Every living thing exhibits pattern in either growth or habit. Any subject is acceptable for study, any technique or material acceptable for making a new form.

In the tremendous flux of experiences, there is only one thing which has ever brought me a moment of peace: Drawing and painting from life.

I have never been able (because my work is so categorically realistic) to reject recognizable subject matter. As much as the process of manipulating materials creates the actual work, an emotional or intellectual homage to subject persists in me. There is undoubtedly a narrative, but I specialize in making marks on a surface rather than words on a page.

Having said all this, the ironic truth is that the most satisfying pictures I make are as inscrutable as the subjects that inspire them.

The most exciting part of being a wildlife artist is going out into the field to gather the reference for my paintings. Here where my passion begins!

I don’t copy photographs I use them as a tool to get where I want to express in my work. I often add a bit more color to my paintings to inspire excitement in the viewer. Each of my paintings tells a story.

I paint in acrylics, oils and in pastels. With oils and acrylics I will often use tempered boards of canvas coating them with a color to set the mood for the scene. I apply values to establish my lights and darks. Finally comes color and textures are the stars of my work.

I tend to favor a warm palette over a cool one, I think that living in Florida has something to do with it.

When I start a painting in pastel I use a textured paper. I cover it with four colors depicting values and stain the rubbing alcohol.

I enjoy dabbling in all forms art can be expressed. It is such a wonderful way to take a piece of yourself and put it out into the world. Each piece I create is made with a lot of love and has helped me on the journey to loving myself. I think that's something important that all artists need and crave. Art fulfills the void and breathes light into the spaces that still require healing.

Much of my work reflects on all things threatened and endangered.

We are living in very challenging times where so many certainties have become uncertain and our normality has been turned upside down, shattered.

As a human my only way of coping with the world is to gaze at the daisies and find solace in my surroundings as my sanity is endangered if I don’t!

The work submitted depicts many endangered species across the globe.

For me Art is knowledge expressed in verbal or material images. Knowledge that helps one to understand and comprehend the world around us and contributes to the inner growth. Art is an attempt to express one's attitude to the reality we are living in. Our consciousness is only an expression of our perception of the surrounding us world. An artist's talent is to see something that others do not and convey it to us in the most sensual form. I want my art to tell people more about the the world around them. I want to inspire people to love their life because it is a miracle that we are blessed to have.

Sandhill cranes a prefer to be undisturbed by humans. Due to habitat loss and land development, I have seen these birds on golf courses, in parking lots and crossing the street. This painting was inspired by experiencing the birds in one of their preferred habitat, feeding in tall grasses next to a lake.

Frequently seen in pairs, and wary of danger, on crane is often keeping watch.

In mating season, their plumage turns a lovely orange. The orange plumage set the stage for the complementary color pairing of orange and blue for the painting.

As a small child, a favorite hideaway of mine was a large vernal pool hosting countless species of enduring fascination. The surrounding area was teaming with life - the perfect place for an inquisitive young child to drink deeply the endless curiosities of the natural world. One day, I went to visit my eden, and found it bulldozed to the ground. Trees leveled, wetland filled in with gravel, the entire area devoid of life. This heart-wrenching experience fostered in me a deep relationship with life, death, destruction of habitats, and extinction. As I grew, I learned that narratives just like this play out conglomerately each and every day. It is said that the artist's job is to record their time in history, and I am no exception, for the narratives in my work are that which I continuously play witness to. As an artist, my aim is to shed light upon our collective impact on the natural world, hopefully to inspire whatever it takes for our kind to enact change, before it's too late.
