SUBMISSION: Coffins for the Anthropocene Extinction by Wendy Ritchey

Jon Norris September 2, 2016

Coffins for the Anthropocene Extinction. Wooden boxes, acrylic paint by Wendy Ritchey. All Rights Reserved. These are a series of wooden painted boxes depicting creatures whose continued existence in in danger due to human activities. Each box shows the full life cycle and habitat of the creature. They are intended to be displayed as a group, can be wall mounted and are equipped with wire hangers.

These small painted boxes depict the full life cycles and habitats of creatures facing threats of extinction due to human activities. I began with insects and amphibians as these are the bio- indicators of trouble. I have also made an effort to include creatures that have symbiotic links, such as mudpuppies and salamander snails. my main interest has been with creatures from midwestern states near my home here in Illinois.

To see more of Wendy's work, please see her website: www.wlritchey.com
