SUBMISSION: Uprooted by Hoang Dao

Uprooted by Hoang Dao, an artist from Vietnam. His artist statement reads "Vietnam has about 25 taxa of primates and is one of 25 countries with the highest primate diversity in the world. Unfortunately, most of its primates are in very low number, 4 are critically endangered. I'm lucky enough to have seen most of them, even luckier in the wild for some. Each of them is both beautiful and charismatic as character, and this Douc Langur (Pygathrix nemaeus) is the most beautiful. Thanks to the military character of the habitat, Son Tra peninsula hosts the biggest population in Vietnam. Unfortunately, its status is still listed as critically endangered. The threat is mainly deforestation, leaving the place to resort and hotel construction projects. I put this Douc Langur on an uprooted tree, in a purposely unbalanced composition to send the conservation message. The empty background evokes loss of habitat."
